Chris could think of no better way to celebrate than to swim 750 meters across Sydney Harbor first thing this morning with 1000 other swimmers in the Great Aussie Swim. It doesn't get more Aussie than swimming in the harbor from the Opera House on Australia Day amidst the dozens of (harmless) jelly fish Chris saw beneath the surface when he first jumped in.
We spent the afternoon near the Harbor, watching the festive boats, Australian Air Force jets, skydivers and Sydneysiders in their patriotic Aussie finery. Tonight there was a large light and firework show in Darling Harbor, a portion of Sydney Harbor, just outside our windows. We had amazing seats and could also watch three or four other fireworks displays simultaneously! The kids could literally roll over and go to sleep as soon as the fireworks finished. Can't beat that.

Wow. So cool! I Love that you took some pictures of people passing by. Fabulous night pix. The boats and lights are amazing!
Love Mia's hat too :)
OK, morning reading done. I better get out of bed now!
Jeez! Stop making me so jealous. I thought that Aussies wear green and gold when they want to be patriotic (which I never really understood) but everyone seems to be wearing red white and blue. Really must have felt like the fourth of July.

Jen,
Sorry - don't mean to torture you! It seems that green and gold is mostly for Australian sports teams. We haven't figured out yet where those colors came from. Just have to ask some friendly Aussie. It did feel a lot like the 4th of July - until you think about it being January. Still strange that way!
Cool - thanks for the pix and the daily updates!
